Over the past year and a half, the College has concentrated on becoming a relational regulator, while increasing our focus on our core purpose of regulating nurses in the public interest. During this time, the College has been working towards shifting responsibilities to the Association of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (ARNBC) that we inherited from the former association, the Registered Nurses Association of British Columbia (RNABC).
To continue this transition, our Board recently made the decision to provide funding to ARNBC. These funds will provide the association with the start-up capital necessary to assume services outside the College’s role. This decision means little, if any, increase in fees to nurses over the next five years.
In the coming months, we will be transferring appropriate services to the association that we believe pose a conflict of interest for the College or fall outside our role as a regulator. ARNBC may also choose to deliver additional services. Some examples of services under consideration are:
