The Ministry of Health, the Provincial Health Officer and the three nursing colleges have recently collaborated to update the decision support tool (DST), relating to
Pandemic Influenza,
RN and RPN Decision Support Tool (Clinical Practice Guidelines) for Identification and Early Treatment of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) Symptoms during an Influenza Pandemic in the Absence of a Medical Practitioner or Nurse Practitioner.
This DST has been revised from the one developed for the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic to cover any influenza pandemic that has been declared by the Provincial Health Officer. This DST is to support RN practice in the situation where there is no medical practitioner or NP and to facilitate access to the provincial antiviral stockpile.
This DST is referenced in the
Scope of Practice for Registered Nurses.
