Documentation practice standard updated

posted Jan. 11, 2016

The CRNBC Board at its December 2015 meeting approved minor revisions to the Documentation practice standard. The revisions primarily address records retention and expectations related to electronic health records. The retention period for records is now 16 years, in line with the limitation periods set out in B.C.’s Limitation Act and with other B.C. health care regulators.

As per board policy, we are providing 30 days’ notice for nurses to incorporate these changes into their practice. The revised practice standard will come into effect Feb. 12, 2016.
