How often do I have to work in my Certified Practice area to be able to renew?

You don't need to meet a minimum practice hour requirement, but you must have

  • practiced in the certified practice area in the previous three-year period​
  • included Certified Practice in your professional development plan every year

If I don’t work in my Certified Practice area, can I still renew my Certified Practice designation?
Yes, provided you’ve practiced in your certified practice area in the past three years and meet the Quality Assurance Requirements for Certified Practice Nurses.​
What happens if I don't meet the Quality Assurance requirements for Certified Practice?
You would not be eligible for the Certified Practice designation. To be eligible again, you would need to complete an approved course. You’ll find a list of approved certified practice courses on the Studying to be a Nurse page.
How can my employer confirm that I am certified by CRNBC?
Employers can go to the CRNBC Nurse Verification Page and enter your name.
