June 2011

The following proposed amendments were approved by government.

Quality Assurance

On June 9, 2011, the Board of the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC) met to consider changes to section 5.01 (Assessment of Professional Performance) and section 5.11 (Information) of the CRNBC Bylaws.

The changes approved by the Board are as follows:

  • Add provisions to section 5.01 (Assessment of Professional Performance) specifically authorizing the collection of information from patients and colleagues for the purpose of assessing the professional performance of a registrant. Patient and colleague participation would be voluntary.
  • Revise section 5.11 (Information) to expressly authorize the compilation, use and disclosure (to employers, the public, other stakeholders) of aggregated, anonymous information related to registrants’ learning needs, strengths and perceptions of their practice environments.

The proposed bylaw amendments have been distributed to B.C. health professions colleges and posted on the CRNBC website to ensure that the public and other interested stakeholders may view the proposed changes in a timely manner.
